Overview
FoodBridge is a food donation and redistribution app that connects three groups: donors (restaurants, hotels, hostels, canteens, event organizers) with surplus food, receivers (NGOs, shelters, orphanages, community kitchens) who need it, and volunteer delivery riders who move it between them.
Each group has its own login, home screen and navigation, so nobody sees a generic dashboard. Donors publish food with quantity, safe-until time and pickup details. Receivers browse and filter available food and request what they need. The donor accepts or rejects each request, and a request is never shown as accepted until the donor actually accepts it. Riders see open deliveries, accept one, and step through a guided flow: travelling to the donor, arriving at pickup, collecting the food, travelling to the receiver, and completing the delivery. The receiver then confirms the quantity received. Every user sees the same status at every step, with notifications and a full activity timeline.
Food safety is built in. The app checks whether a rider can finish the trip before the food's safe-until time, blocks pickup and delivery of expired food, checks rider carrying capacity, and automatically releases a delivery to another rider if the first rider does not start in time. These rules come from our CivicAid dispatch engine.
All data is saved in a shared backend (REST API with a SQLite database), so donors, receivers and riders on different devices see live, consistent information, and it persists across restarts. The interface is mobile-first, accessible, and uses clear status labels instead of relying on colour alone.
Built with: HTML, CSS and JavaScript for the frontend, Python with SQLite for the backend, and ported logic from the CivicAid FastAPI engine.
