Overview
Every night, restaurants, hostel messes and pharmacies try to donate surplus food and supplies, yet nearly 40% of perishable aid is wasted because of coordination gaps. Supply doesn’t match demand, volunteers claim batches and go silent, and shelters fill up or lack the facilities to use what arrives.
Nexus is the missing link between surplus and need. Donors post surplus in four guided steps: items, quantity, safety and review. Shelters register their needs, required quantities and available facilities. Volunteers accept eligible delivery tasks and update each stage until handoff, and coordinators watch the whole network on a live map with expiry alerts and delivery exceptions.
Safety rules make sure aid can actually be used. Ration kits only go where there is clean water and cooking fuel, dairy needs refrigeration, and medical or infant supplies need coordinator verification. Built with React, TypeScript, Leaflet maps and an Express backend with persistent storage.
