Overview
Last-Mile Spoilage Trap (Quorum Dispatch) is a real-time dispatch engine that gets perishable food and medical supplies from donors to shelters before they spoil. Ordinary delivery apps treat food like parcels, so riders claim orders and vanish, shelters fill up without anyone knowing, and food ends up where it can’t be prepared safely. Our engine handles each of these failures.
How it works:
Safety rule: A batch is assigned only if pickup time + transit time + a 10-minute buffer fits inside its shelf life. Otherwise it is refused upfront, never delivered late. Bulk splitting: Large donations, such as 180 meals, are split across several riders and shelters without overloading either. Ghost rider protection: Riders must send heartbeats. If one goes silent, the lease is revoked, the rider gets a strike, and the food is reassigned. Mid-journey recovery: If a shelter fills or closes while a rider is on the road, the cargo is rerouted, split across two shelters if needed, or escalated as stranded. Supply checks: Formula needs clean water, rations need water and fuel, and medical supplies need cold storage. Unknown categories are refused by default.
What we built: A Python engine (engine.py), a FastAPI service with SQLite persistence (api.py), a test suite covering the judge scenarios (simulate.py), and a live Pune map dashboard. The dashboard can run all six judge scenarios with one click and check the results, and it shows each batch’s safety budget, the rider heartbeats and a readable event feed.
