Overview
Arra is escrow on Celo for any deal paid with a deposit and a balance: any buyer, any supplier, anywhere. A factory in Shenzhen, a carpenter in Ibadan, a builder back home, a freelance designer. We start with Nigerian importers, because that's where deposits are lost most often. (Arra is Latin for earnest money: the deposit that secures a deal.)
Who it's for: small traders and businesses who pay a deposit now and a balance later, usually by bank transfer. China supplied ₦11.01 trillion of Nigeria's imports in the first half of 2026, 39% of the total, and most of it is paid with no protection once the money is sent. This week (29 Oct 2026) a man in Bauchi was charged over ₦5.7m paid in two instalments for a tractor that never came; in 2025, traders lost ₦3.3bn on damaged solar panels, and "our bank details have changed" fraud cost $3.05bn worldwide. The naira adds risk between deposit and balance: it moved from ₦1,331.50 to ₦1,367.61 per dollar in just 20 days this October.
What it does:
- Check a supplier first. Paste their Instagram, TikTok or X page. Arra's agent (ERC-8004 #9996) reads it and searches X and Reddit for complaints, paying for the data itself over x402 through buy on Celo, half a cent a lookup, free for the buyer. One clear verdict: looks established, be careful, or high risk. Suppliers can confirm their page with a code in their bio, so impersonators get flagged.
- Describe the order like a message; an AI assistant turns it into clear terms, and vague words like "good quality" are refused. Send the supplier one link: they read the exact terms (English, or Chinese if they prefer), connect the wallet they want to be paid in, and agree in one visit. The buyer sees their track record and reviews, and a changed payout address sets off an alarm.
- Lock the whole order in an open, verified contract from any Celo wallet (MiniPay, MetaMask, Rabby), paying in USDT or straight from naira. Every naira payment is a Textile FX fill: a firm quote for exactly the USDT needed, so the rate is fixed on day one. On a $7,000 balance this October, that saved ₦252,770 in 20 days.
- The supplier gets the deposit the moment they accept; the balance pays out when the goods ship and arrive, all at once or in parts. Container numbers are checked, and the check period starts on arrival.
- Refund rules are built into the contract: cancel before acceptance or not accepted in time, 100% back; not shipped in time, balance back. Arra's agent sends refunds and payouts automatically. Problems are reported with signed photos and settled by a split; an ignored offer goes through in 7 days and a stuck dispute splits 50/50 at 30 days.
- After the deal, both sides review each other, hidden until both have written. Only real orders can be reviewed.
- Nobody in the middle, Arra included, can move the money anywhere but to the buyer or the supplier.
Live on Celo mainnet: verified vault, a real naira-paid order filled through Textile FX, a friend's order run start to finish, and supplier checks paid by the agent over x402. Every Arra transaction carries attribution tag celo_00cfddd372fa.
