Agents that earn, pay and settle on live payment rails, with real money moving.
Agents are becoming economic actors. To be useful, they need an identity others can verify, a way to pay and get paid without a human in the loop, and money that means something where their users live. Celo has all three live on mainnet: ERC-8004 identity, x402 machine payments through a hosted facilitator, and local and global stablecoins on a blockchain network with sub-cent fees payable in stablecoins, including USD₮, USDC, and USA₮. Attribution tags track onchain contributions to make sure builders are judged for the activity they create.
The Agents on Open Rails Hackathon puts Celo's rails to work. Past hackathon editions proved builders can ship agents on Celo. This one is about demand: agents with somebody real on the other side of the transaction. Every track is built on payment rails that are already live, with real liquidity behind them, and is scored on real onchain activity.
Three tracks, $5,000 in prizes
- Stable Agents: LatAm (Ripio × Celo Core Co.) — 🥇 $1,500 · 🥈 $500. Across LatAm, moving money often means converting through the dollar first, with fees at every step. Build agents that charge, pay, save, and settle directly in Ripio's local currency stablecoins: wARS, wBRL, wMXN, wCOP, wPEN, and wCLP. Payroll, subscriptions, remittances, and merchant tools that never leave pesos, reais, or soles.
- Stable Agents: Open Corridors. Agents that make crossing between currencies affordable, fast, and verifiable. Two subtracks:
- Textile FX — 🥇 $750 · 🥈 $250. Agents that quote and settle FX on Textile, a permissionless onchain FX marketplace (cNGN, wARS, wBRL and USDC against USD₮): smarter pricing, or treasury agents that manage a business's currency exposure.
- USA₮ with x402 — 🥇 $750 · 🥈 $250. Products with real users settling USA₮ through Celo's x402 facilitator.
- Build with buy — $1,000 across 5 projects. Solve a real problem with a product that pays for services it doesn't own, from compute and browsers to data and inference.

Stable Agents: LatAm | Ripio x Celo Core Co
www.ripio.com/Ripio has been building crypto infrastructure in Latin America since 2013, with operations across Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Peru. Its wFIAT stablecoins (wARS, wBRL, wMXN, wCOP, wCLP and wPEN) are ERC-20 tokens backed 1:1 by local currency, live on Celo mainnet, with free on- and off-ramps through Ripio.
Why builders are excited: an agent can now hold, charge, and settle in the currency its users actually earn and spend. Celo fees can be paid in stablecoins, and wARS, wBRL and wCOP already settle through Celo's x402 facilitator, so pay-per-call in pesos or reais works today (wMXN, wPEN and wCLP are live on Celo for transfers and payments).
Ideas to build:
- Pay-per-call APIs and agent services priced in pesos or reais over x402
- Payroll, freelancer payouts, and subscriptions that settle in local currency
- Transfers that move directly between LatAm currencies, such as wBRL to wARS
- Merchant agents that invoice, collect, and reconcile in wARS, wMXN, or wCOP
- Savings and budgeting agents that help households plan in their own currency
- MiniPay-style consumer flows for everyday payments
Join the Ripio wFIAT livestream on Thu 8 Oct, 15:00 GMT to see how to integrate the tokens.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How are winners decided?
+
Each track is scored by a query we publish before the window opens, and the live leaderboard runs on that same query. A human panel makes the final call, using query data plus the Loops judge's reading of your repository. - Stable Agents: LatAm: it works on mainnet with a real wFIAT token, makes real use of wFIAT and the Celo stack, the agent is autonomous and useful, a real person can use the UX, and the impact for LatAm is clear. - Open Corridors, Textile FX: strategy P&L, volume quoted and filled, and originality. - Open Corridors, USA₮ over x402: real settlement between independent parties, with the currency choice justified by the user it serves. - Build with buy: the problem you solve and the depth of your integration, meaning verified paid calls into services you don't control and the growth they create for those services.
What counts as an independent user?
+
A wallet that is not yours, was not first funded by you or your main funder, and had its own activity on Celo before the hackathon started. Wallets that exist only because you created and funded them do not count.
My users are new to Celo. Does that disqualify me?
+
No. Onboarding new people is exactly what we want, and we measure it in other ways.
I sponsor gas for my users. Will they still be counted?
+
Yes. We count signers and authorisers, not only gas payers, so gasless and MiniPay flows are not penalised. However, gas our relayer pays on your behalf does not count as your contribution. Make sure to mention architecture like this in your submission.
What is an attribution tag, and where does it go?
+
A short ERC-8021 code your app appends to the calldata of every transaction it sends. It is how the leaderboard knows a transaction came from you. It goes in the code that builds and sends transactions (usually your frontend or agent backend), not in your smart contract. As the attribution tag can't be added to transactions retroactively, transactions without the tag can't be counted from our side, so make sure to implement it before your first transaction.
What is ERC-8004, and why do I need an Agent ID?
+
ERC-8004 is the agent identity registry. Your agent gets an onchain ID showing it exists and who owns it, so others can check it before transacting. It takes a few minutes and is required for every track. You can explore registered agents on 8004scan (8004scan.io). Your project will only be valid with an ERC-8004 identity.
What is Celo’s x402 native facilitator?
+
x402 is an open standard that turns HTTP 402 into a real payment step: the server answers with a price, your client signs a stablecoin authorisation, and the request is retried with payment attached. Celo's hosted facilitator at x402.celo.org settles USDC, USD₮, USA₮, wARS and wBRL.
Can I enter more than one track?
+
Yes. You can enter as many tracks as you want, but a team can win only one prize per track.
Do I have to use a particular agent framework?
+
No. Any framework works. What matters is what happens onchain and whether a real person uses it.
What if my project does not fit any track?
+
Enter the closest one and tell us in your submission. We would rather see a strong project than lose it.
I am registering late. Is it worth it?
+
Yes. Stages can be cleared at any pace. Just register and wire in your attribution tag before sending anything you want counted, because it cannot be backfilled.
What happens after the hackathon?
+
Winners and projects with real users get co-marketing, mentorship and ecosystem introductions to keep scaling on Celo. Agents other teams used get listed in the curated Celo set on Aigora. Your hackathon track record counts when you apply for Prezenti Grants, and every submission earns a Builder Graph rating and a Certify credential.
How is Stable Agents: LATAM judged?
+
On five criteria set by Ripio: it works on mainnet with a real wFiat token, it makes real use of wFiat and the Celo stack, the agent is autonomous and useful, a real person can use the UX, and the impact for LATAM is clear.
How is Stable Agents: Open Corridors judged?
+
Textile FX lane: strategy P&L, volume quoted and filled, and originality. USA₮ lane: real settlement between independent parties, with the currency choice justified by the user it serves.
How is Build with buy judged?
+
On the problem you solve and the depth of your integration: verified paid calls from your tagged wallet into services you don't control, and the growth they create for those services. Independent users are a qualifier. Spamming the cheapest call scores nothing.
What are the rules?
+
Celo mainnet only (testnet references in your repo are fine). Public GitHub repo at registration that still resolves at judging. Sponsored gas is not builder contribution. Attribution tag must be implemented. Enter as many tracks as you want; a team can win only one prize per track. Code is written during the hackathon.
What if something in my project looks wrong?
+
We raise it with you privately, and you have 48 hours to reply before anything is said publicly. Nobody is disqualified by a dashboard. We also recommend mentioning where your users or volume came from.
Where can I get support?
+
Join our hackathon Telegram group (t.me/realworldagentshackathon), our weekly Office Hours on Thursdays at 12:00 GMT, and our livestream sessions on X Spaces or YouTube.
What is buy?
+
buy (usebuy.ai) turns HTTP 402 Payment Required into a working status code: a stablecoin payment signed locally on Celo, attached to the retry, and optionally a proof that a real human is behind it. Skills and feedback live in celo-org/buy-skill on GitHub.
Where can I find resources?
+
- Celopedia (celopedia.celo.org): the all-in-one library for building on Celo - x402.celo.org: the x402 payment protocol on Celo - buy (usebuy.ai): the x402 payment client and agent service marketplace, with skills in celo-org/buy-skill - USA₮ for verified, eligible humans (Google Cloud Web3 faucet): verify once with Self and claim USA₮ on Celo mainnet - Textile FX (app.textilecredit.com): onchain FX liquidity, USD₮ against cNGN, wARS, wBRL and USDC - cNGN (cngn.co): the regulated, fiat-backed Nigerian naira stablecoin - AskBots (askbots.ai): reviewer agents that read your project and rate it - Para (docs.getpara.com): smart wallet infrastructure for agents - ERC-8004 and 8004scan (8004scan.io): agent identity and onchain agent activity - Attribution tags (github.com/celo-org/attribution-tags): the ERC-8021 SDK for onchain attribution - Chainstack (chainstack.com): dedicated Celo nodes, 3 months of Growth Plan free for every team - Celo Docs (docs.celo.org)
Where do I get stablecoins to build with?
+
Eligible users can get their first allocation of USA₮ from the Google Cloud Web3 faucet once you verify with Self. cNGN is at cngn.co and through Textile FX. Ripio's wFIAT tokens are live on Celo mainnet, and the Ripio livestream on 8 October covers how to use them.
