StationPool – Metro-Based Commuter Pooling Platform StationPool is a commuter pooling platform designed to make daily travel easier, more affordable, and more convenient. The main idea behind StationPool is to connect people who travel on the same metro route and are heading towards similar destinations. Many commuters use the metro to reach a particular station, but they still need to travel some distance to reach their homes, colleges, or workplaces. StationPool helps them share this remaining journey with other commuters going in the same direction. The platform allows passengers to find suitable travel partners based on their metro station, destination, and travel time. For example, if two students arrive at the same metro station and are travelling towards nearby areas, they can connect through StationPool and share a car ride instead of travelling separately. This can help reduce individual travel expenses, make better use of available car seats, and reduce the number of vehicles on the road. StationPool also allows drivers who are already planning to travel along a particular route to publish their journey and offer available seats to other commuters. Passengers can view suitable journeys, send ride requests, and join a trip after the driver accepts their request. The platform includes features such as user registration, driver and vehicle verification, journey publishing, ride matching, request management, PIN-based passenger verification, and ride completion tracking. The main focus of StationPool is to create a simple and reliable connection between metro commuters and people travelling in the same direction. Rather than operating like a traditional cab-booking service, it focuses on sharing journeys that are already planned. This makes the platform more community-oriented and encourages commuters to make better use of existing travel options. For its initial implementation, StationPool focuses on metro-based carpooling in Pune. By combining metro travel with shared road transport, the project aims to improve last-mile connectivity, reduce travel costs, and make everyday commuting more efficient. In the future, the platform could be expanded to support more stations, additional travel options, and a larger commuter community.
