Overview
PunaRaksha is an AI-assisted civic safety and grievance platform built to make cities safer, faster, and more responsive. It is designed for Pune, where citizens can report civic issues, upload evidence, track complaints, and receive real-time safety alerts, while authorities get a clear command dashboard for faster decision-making.
The core idea is simple but powerful: citizens should not struggle to be heard, and authorities should not be forced to work with scattered, unverified information. PunaRaksha connects both sides through one intelligent system.
Using Codex, I built the project from an idea into a working full-stack application with frontend, backend, database, authentication, file upload, role-based access, multilingual UI, safety alerts, and deployment-ready configuration. Codex helped me rapidly design the architecture, generate production-style code, debug backend and frontend issues, improve security, add database persistence, build UI flows, and turn the project from a prototype into a real-world solution.
AI is used in the project in multiple meaningful ways:
- AI-assisted complaint classification: complaints are analyzed and categorized automatically so they can be routed to the correct civic authority.
- AI-style evidence review support: uploaded images are checked using metadata, EXIF signals, camera identity, GPS metadata, and file validation to flag suspicious or possibly manipulated evidence.
- AI-powered assistant “Rakshak”: a built-in chatbot helps citizens and authorities understand how to file complaints, check case status, use safety alerts, review evidence, and follow authority workflows.
- Risk intelligence dashboard: complaint severity, AQI trends, SLA breaches, and ward-level risk signals are combined into actionable insights for officers.
- Safety Zone Alerts: citizen GPS location is checked against mapped high-risk zones, and the system sends personalized safety warnings when a user enters a sensitive area.
What makes PunaRaksha impactful is that it does not only collect complaints. It helps verify evidence, prioritize risk, guide citizens, assist officers, and improve response coordination. It supports English, Marathi, and Hindi so the platform can serve real local users, not just technical audiences.
PunaRaksha is not just a dashboard. It is a civic safety layer for the city: one that helps citizens speak up, helps authorities act faster, and uses AI responsibly to make public service more intelligent, transparent, and human-centered.
