Overview

Category: Web3/Blockchain

Pact Network is a decentralized infrastructure layer providing trust and payment protection for the burgeoning AI agent economy. As autonomous agents increasingly rely on programmatic, high-frequency API calls (per the HTTP 402 standard), a critical gap has emerged: the absence of chargeback or dispute mechanisms. When an API fails, the agent's payment is irrevocably lost, hindering the development of more complex and high-stakes automated systems.

Pact Network solves this by introducing an on-chain escrow and automated refund protocol built on the Solana blockchain. Developers integrate a lightweight SDK into their AI agents, wrapping standard API calls with a protective layer. For a small premium, each payment is routed into a secure smart contract that acts as a neutral escrow. An independent monitoring service then verifies the API's response against a predefined Service Level Agreement (SLA), checking metrics like response time and status codes.

If the API call is successful and meets the SLA, the funds are released to the provider. However, if the service fails, the protocol automatically triggers an instant refund of the escrowed amount in USDC directly to the agent's wallet. By leveraging Solana's high throughput and low transaction fees, Pact Network is built to handle the projected scale of millions of daily machine-to-machine payments, establishing a foundational layer of financial trust required for the next generation of autonomous applications.

Key features:

  • Effortless SDK Integration: Developers can wrap existing API calls with the Pact SDK in just a few lines of code, adding payment protection without refactoring their agent's core logic.
  • On-Chain Escrow: Each protected payment is held in a secure, on-chain smart contract on the Solana network, acting as a trustless intermediary until the transaction is verified.
  • Automated SLA Verification: Pact's monitoring service acts as a decentralized oracle, automatically verifying API performance against predefined SLAs like response time and status codes.
  • Instant USDC Refunds: If an API fails to meet its SLA, the escrowed funds are automatically and instantly refunded to the agent's wallet as USDC, ensuring no value is lost.
  • High-Throughput Protocol: Built on Solana, the network is designed to handle millions of daily agent payments with minimal fees and near-instant settlement.
