Overview
CLAI is a unified agentic coding harness for developers and engineering teams working on real repositories. It is a single TypeScript binary that separates two planes: a Tool plane (live ripgrep, LSP, bash, edit, parallel jobs, repo intake) and a Harness plane (tiered memory with provenance, budgeted context assembly, deterministic compaction, verification contract, and append-only JSONL traces). You can plug in any commercial API key or local model — the control plane stays the same. Discovery always happens on the live repo; memory only cites paths. Shell runs inside a sandbox with approval gates and env scrub. We prove the harness contribution with a first-party benchmark that races CLAI head-to-head against Pi and Codex under the identical model and the same tasks. Higher pass rate, lower cost per success, better recovery. Built for AE-01: model-independent adapter, repository intelligence, safety by construction, full observability, and a complete vertical slice ready for held-out evaluation.
